Департамент энергетики США представил миру самый мощный суперкомпьютер, отобравший это звание у китайского Sunway TaihuLight. Пиковая производительность американского суперкомпьютера Summit достигает 200 петафлопсов (200 квадриллионов вычислений в секунду). Это более чем в два раза выше пиковой производительности китайской системы, которая составляет 93 петафлопса, а также примерно в 7 раз выше производительности суперкомпьютера Titan – в прошлом самого мощного суперкомпьютера США, расположенного в той же самой Национальной лаборатории Ок-Ридж, где установлена новая система.
Производительность Summit настолько высока, что система способна всего за один час справляться с задачами, на которые у обычного настольного компьютера могло уходить до 30 лет.
Суперкомпьютер Summit состоит из 4608 серверных станций, занимающих общую площадь двух теннисных кортов.
